Post It Note
Micropunto Schallplatten is a new label combining the talents of some of the freshest underground DJs & Producers emerging from Europe right now. After the stunning first release “La Capra Campa EP” by label bosses Ikkaku & D-Gelo, they hand over control for the second instalment to Bristol based producer Jobody for his Post It Note EP.
Jobody states his intent clearly with opening track Disco Ball, when it’s spoken word monologue concludes with the battle cry “let’s get down to it and fucking dance!” Shimmering synths introduce the track before an urgent, undulating bassline propels the beat forward, as glitched-out bleeps chatter back and forth. The track builds up as an elastic melody slides across the beat before the booming baritone of our narrator advises that this “special event…is going to be quite the spectacle”. A pitch perfect percussive roller to get floors shaking and bassbins quaking!
Second track Expectancy submerges us in deep space with an echo-drenched ping-pong melody folding itself around a dubwise bassline. As chords slowly glide in and out of focus, the melody builds and fills out the track with an ethereal, melancholy sound. A sharp breakdown then brings the track down low as the ground rumbles with the beat, before snapping back into focus for one final push to the surface, a haunted starship returning to the land of the living from the furthermost corners of the galaxy. A beautifully crafted piece of music with a truly cinematic feel that fuels the imagination, as well as the dancefloor.
Which leads us to the final track Richmond, rising up like an ancient leviathan, submerged for years in an underwater slumber. Glistening percussion tweaked to perfection rolls into a heavyweight bassline that guides us as we rise with the ominous melody back to the surface. The overwhelming feeling of the track is of darkness and foreboding, like the speck of light in the deep black of the ocean, that slowly reveals itself to be a monster unseen by the human eye for millennia…hypnotising you before devouring you whole!
An inventive and refreshing EP from an accomplished producer clearly confident in his abilities, this versatile release will be perfect for techno and house DJs alike, with a panoramic quality that will suit any forward-thinking music fan and is guaranteed to pick up a lot of support across the board for the obvious talents of this up and coming producer. With releases as creative as this, Mircopunto is destined to go from strength to strength. Another amazing collection of incredible music.
